The Chippewa County Board of Commissioners met on Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. in the Courtroom of the Chippewa County Courthouse for their Organizational meeting.

Present: Commissioner Ted Postula, Don Cooper, Scott Shackleton, Richard Timmer, Bernard LaJoie, Jim Moore and Chairman Earl Kay

Also Present: Kelly Beaune, Acting Controller, Don McLean and Diane Cork, County Clerk

VICE-CHAIR ELECTION

Chairman Kay called for nominations three times for the position of Vice-Chairman for the Chippewa County Board of Commissioners.

Commissioner Cooper nominated Scott Shackleton, supported by Commissioner Moore.

Commissioner Moore nominated Richard Timmer, supported by Commissioner LaJoie.

On a show of hands, Commissioners Cooper and Shackleton voted for Scott Shackleton.

Commissioners Postula, Timmer, LaJoie, Moore and Kay voted for Richard Timmer.

Richard Timmer was elected the Vice-Chairman of the Chippewa County Board of Commissioners.

NEW BUSINESS:

Appointments to various Committees:

Chairman Kay stated that the 2008 Standing Committees will remain the same as 2007 unless someone would like to change committees.

MEETING TIMES:

It was moved by Commissioner LaJoie, supported by Commissioner to approve the following meeting dates for the regular County Board and Finance meetings:

On a voice vote, the motion carried.

REVIEW OF COUNTY POLICIES AND PROCEDURES:

Discussion was held on the election of the County Board Chair and if a Chairman needed to be elected every year or every two years.

It was moved by Commissioner Timmer, supported by Commissioner LaJoie, to accept the Bylaws and Rules of Procedure except Article 4.1.1, Election of Chair, (until further review) as presented. On a voice vote, the motion carried unanimously.

PUBLIC COMMENTS:

Don McLean commented on the Work Shop meeting with Rep. Gary McDowell held on December 14, 2007 about HBH Board representation.

It was moved by Commissioner Shackleton, supported by Commissioner Cooper, that the Chippewa County Board of Commissioners formally request both of our State legislators to introduce and pursue legislation that follows the intent of what was discussed at the County Board Work Session of December 14, 2007. On a voice vote, the motion carried unanimously.

It was noted that advertising needed to be made for an opening on the HBH Board.

Having no further business, it was moved by Commissioner Timmer, supported by Commissioner Moore, to adjourn. On a voice vote, the motion carried and the Board did adjourn at 5:18 p.m.
