91st District Court - Landlord Tenant Division

The Court handles Landlord Tenant matters in Chippewa County. The process of evicting a renter who has broken a lease, usually by failing to pay rent, is called a summary proceeding. The landlord presents evidence to the Court as to why the tenant/defendant should be evicted. The tenant/defendant may present evidence as to why they should not be evicted. This procedure is generally the same for a property owner involved in land-contract forfeiture.

These cases often involve a claim for money damages as well as eviction. If money damages are awarded, there may also be garnishments issued to recover personal property to satisfy the judgment.
