Request for Court Appointed Attorney Form
The Public Defender Office provides representation for adult criminal defense only.
When you are charged with a crime in Chippewa County, you will come to the 91st District Court for your arraignment. An arraignment is where you are formally charged with the crime(s). There will be one of the public defenders present to help you through the arraignment.
After your arraignment you will need to either hire your own attorney or fill out an application for court appointed counsel. If you fill out the application for court appointed counsel and qualify, a public defender will be appointed to represent you. You will be given an appointment date and time to meet with your attorney to discuss your case and all the options available.
